  • To maintain contact and communication with the local and past communities of the residents through visits to the home and from the home with those communities.

  • To involve the relatives and friends as much as possible in the continuing care of the resident.

Fernbank Theraputic Community is a Registered care home which has been established for over 25 years as a family business.

Our care team are carefully selected and highly trained in care using internal and external resources in line with "Skills For Care" guidelines the majority of staff are qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 2 in care and all undertake mental health awareness training. They are trained to provide physical psychological and emotional support.

Our philosophy resolves around the concept of "normalisation".We believe the enviroment a person lives in can be a major contributory factor to their mental health problem.

At Fern Bank our aim is to stabalise the enviroment. We offer support, comfort and individual care planning to assist the person to overcome their mental health problems.

Through experience we have found that people, many with a long-standing history of mental illness respond positively to our enviroment. Upon close liaison with health care professionals, we aim to gradually reduce psychiatric medications over time, facilitating many residents to live medication-free.

The main tools we use to bring about "normalisation" are social interaction with trained staff and support from fellow residents. By giving and recieving positive regard the residents self esteem grows and they can achieve a social and emotional level comparable to before they became "ill"
